It’s time for the OFM 50: our annual list of people, restaurants, producers, destinations and ingredients that are currently exciting us. As always, the list is a pot au feu of good things from every sector of the food world, from a magical sweet shop (Heston, of course) to coracle fishermen. From kebabs to crepe suzette, our eagerly awaited tick list of great stuff to eat or do (though mostly eat) is here.
We also have recipes from Peter Gordon, who has quietly made an impact on Britain’s food, from his groundbreaking Sugar Club (those unforgettable scallops with creme fraiche and lentils) to his long-running residence at the much-loved Providores in London’s Marylebone. No empire building and brand management for him, just a gentle presence in the food world, with a calm, assured style all his own. He brings us recipes from his new book, including chilli-roasted sweet potato, courgette, roast garlic, hazelnuts and pears; crusty baked wasabi mushrooms, spinach, tomato, orange, dill and grated egg, and roast chicken with black garlic and kale.
