Forget, for a moment, the takeaways that prey on the pissed and the knackered. Those moments when we are either too drunk to notice what we are eating, or too fried to care. Let us celebrate the good takeaways of this land; the snow-white fish in crackling batter; the burgers made with fine ingredients, seasoned imaginatively; the kebabs and pizza slices so worth eating that a queue forms the second the doors open or the shutters clatter up. Let’s raise a bottle to the entrepreneurs who have spotted the delicious hole in the market for good food eaten standing up.
This month, we sent photographer Sarah Lee and writer Laura Barton to Wigan, Brixton and Birmingham to capture those moments when, for some of us, only a takeaway will do.
